Spray Operator

Location: Mangere

Asplundh provide professional, safe and cost effective services to our loyal customers who range from local councils and power companies, to private businesses and the public.

We are seeking a Spray Operator to work near Mangere. You must have a current advanced GROWSAFE certificate and experience with spraying. You will need to be physically fit as there is a lot of walking involved.

Ideally you will:

  • Have a passion for the outdoors
  • Be flexible
  • Be able to work in inclement  weather conditions
  • Have an excellent work ethic, reliable transport and exceptional time management skills
  • Are fit and healthy with a positive attitude
  • Are confident in using and maintaining garden care equipment

We are seeking a Mower Operator to be responsible for taking pride in and maintaining the grounds throughout Dunedin. The work involves mowing of grassed areas, litter removal, edging treatment and weed control.

You will:

Fleet and Procurement Manager

Location: Auckland

Asplundh is seeking a dynamic, highly experienced Fleet Manager to manage the operational fleet across our growing business areas in New Zealand.  Experience in the Vegetation Management, Arboriculture, Horticulture, Utilities or construction industry is an advantage but not essential.  This position will be based in either our Central or Southern Auckland offices, with travel across our business areas required from time to time.

You’ll possess extensive experience as a Fleet Manager, with additional Procurement knowledge, with previous experience implementing and maintaining systems, creating and establishing policies and procedures. You will also have well-developed communication skills with the ability to present relevant information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and written.

To be successful in the role you will require sound project and time management skills with the ability to get things done on time and within scope. By utilising your proven business partnering capability including relationship management, negotiating and influencing skills, will ensure your success in this role.  A sound understanding of fleet pricing, lifecycle management and purchasing is advantageous.

Key Accountabilities of this role are:

  • Streamline current fleet and procurement management practice to ensure cost effectiveness is being achieved
  • Provide reports and cost analysis on current activity when required
  • Investigate, identify and engage preferred fleet provider(s) and act as the primary contact for contract negotiations with potential suppliers
  • Efficiently update and maintain the companies Fleet Management System to track and maintain our fleet including, registration, availability, leasing, licensing and cost
  • Establish process and policies around our fleet vehicles and data management
  • Consult and work with different business groups to determine current fleet management practice, areas for improvement and their future needs
  • Manage purchasing of fleet vehicles, machines and equipment
  • Arrange collection and delivery of vehicles and equipment across all operational areas
  • Plan, prepare and organise maintenance (service and major repairs) of vehicles with suppliers
  • Liaise with external stakeholders including Government authorities, insurance providers and transport authorities

Asplundh is looking for an individual who demonstrates a lead-by-example mentality, displays natural confidence, has well developed decision-making ability and will strive to exceed expectations. The successful applicant will need to be competent in the electronic file management and MS office productivity suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook as these skills will be utilised each day.

Contract Supervisor – Pukekohe

Location: Pukekohe

Who are we?

The opportunity?

An opportunity has arisen for a Contract Supervisor to manage our Pukekohe based contracts which include Burial and Sexton Services, the Waikato Council Grounds Maintenance Contract, and private Grounds Maintenance Contracts.

Duties involve:

  • Leading and managing staff
  • Carrying out audits for Health, Safety and Quality
  • Effective and efficient planning and scheduling of resource according to client and Company demands
  • Effective communication with staff and clients, attendance of staff and client meetings
  • Tracking of schedules, costs, revenue and profit including updating and submission of reports
  • Pricing
  • On call duties to support and assist the Sexton team

Ideally you:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience supervising staff in a similar situation
  • Have proven technical ability
  • Are organised and methodical
  • Are a problem solver and have a high level of ownership over issues
  • Are personable and see yourself as part of a team
  • Are computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Are familiar with and able to use mobile web-enabled devices
  • Are a quick thinker with the ability to interpret and provide technical information – this can include mechanical / chemical basics etc.
  • Hold a class 2 licence

A qualification such as a National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) or equivalent is not essential however is certainly looked upon favourably.

Landscape Gardener

Location: Auckland

We are seeking a Gardener with landscaping experience to be based in Albany.

You will be responsible for assisting with design and construction of garden landscapes and renovating existing gardens, path repairs, concreting etc. to ensure compliance with contract requirements. There are two small teams of two working on this contract.

Ideally you will:

  • Have a variety of experience and/or hold qualifications in horticulture or landscaping
  • Be flexible and enjoy carrying out a variety of tasks
  • Have a passion for the outdoors and gardening
  • Be able to work in inclement  weather conditions
  • Have an excellent work ethic, reliable transport and exceptional time management skills
  • Be fit and healthy with a positive attitude

Ground Operations Queenstown Lakes Area – Arborist /Landscaper

Location: Queenstown and Wanaka

Asplundh New Zealand has been the premier vegetation management and tree services Company in New Zealand since 1990. Our Head Office is based in Auckland while our operations span across the country employing over 200 staff.  

We are seeking to appoint a range of permanent and fixed term roles based throughout the Queenstown District. 

To work as part of a team and carry out all landscaping arborist tasks to meet the contract specification for the construction and design of landscape and tree work. It includes: landscape design, construction of landscape structures, the planting and pruning of landscaped areas and maintenance developing and established landscaped areas with additional duties relating particularly in a municipal environment but also for private clients.

To be considered suitable for these positions, is is preferable you:

  • A NZ Register Level 4 qualification or at least three years of relevant work experience.
  • NZ Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) or equivalent.
  • National Certificate in Horticulture (Advanced Landscape) or Arboriculture
  • NZ Diploma in Landscape Design (Level 6)
  • Diploma in Arboriculture or Landscaping
  • Level 3 National Certificate in Cemeteries
  • Growsafe Certificate
  • Handlers Certificate
  • Class two license
  • Have the National Certificate in Horticulture (Level 4) and/or a Turf Management equivalent qualification.
  • Hold a minimum of a Class 2 license
  • Have a strong work ethic and have a production focused personality, with a willingness to learn.
  • Have a good level of fitness and be a team player with a positive attitude

Physical requirements:

  • Medium to very heavy physical demand
  • Workers will need to spray fertilisers and pesticides on an occasional to frequent basis.
  • Medium to very heavy lifting and carrying of ornamental rocks, trees, shrubs and landscaping materials is frequent.
  • Driving is likely to be required for travel to work-sites and the use of machines such as rollers and excavators
  • The use of hand tools both manual and mechanical is likely to be frequent.
  • Mental activities necessary include creative, practical, organisational and problem­ solving skills. 

The successful candidate will have excellent organisational, communication and time management skills, basic computing skills. You must be hardworking, able to work alone and manage others. Previous experience at a lodge, hotel or similar environment is essential. A HT licence is not essential, but would be preferred.
