Grounds Maintenance Person – Fixed Term

Asplundh provide professional, safe and cost effective services to our loyal customers who range from local councils and power companies, to private businesses and the public.

We have a fixed term opportunity for four all-rounder Grounds Maintenance people. The role will commence immediately and conclude around May 2015.

To be considered suitable for this position, it is preferable that you:

  • Have a strong understanding of health and safety practices

While previous experience is not necessary, it will certainly be looked upon favorably. As safety is our key priority, you will be required to undertake, and pass, a pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol test.

Practical, Professional & Proactive Burial Coordinator

Location: Franklin

  • Have the ability to mould to the situation – good or bad?
  • Enjoy paperwork?
  • Delight in lifting a shovel or pushing a wheelbarrow to give your workmates a hand?
  • Available to work outside of usual M-F 9am to 5pm hours and available on Saturdays if required?
  • Able to get your hands dirty, then morph into a professional, spruced up Sexton at the drop of a hat?

If you’ve answered YES to all of the above, then you may just be who we are looking for! Please, continue reading…

We have an opportunity for a Burial Coordinator (official title is a “Sexton” – you’re probably thinking, “a what?”... that title may explain why we’ve changed the heading on this advert!) to work alongside our burial team, grieving families, Auckland Council clients and Funeral Directors. The work is spread throughout various cemeteries in the wider Auckland area therefore a fair amount of travel is required. You will be required to work outside of normal hours from time to time; there could be 7:30am starts and 6:00pm finishes and Saturday work also.

There is a lot of variety in this job – we are not just saying that as a typical job advertisement sentence; you will attend many funerals and find that not one is the same. You will rarely be in the Pukekohe based office; a lot of your paper work will be completed while “safety supervising” a hole in the ground – waiting for the family and coffin to arrive. Another duty while “safety supervising” the grave includes grave reinstatements, in other words shifting dirt around to ensure the graves meet contract specifications. Prior to the funeral your duties will involve plot sales so accuracy with paperwork here is a must (you don’t want our digger operator to dig up a body!) and dressing the grave with artificial grass matting.

Our ideal candidate has a service background – used to dealing with a variety of circumstances, ages and races and is not fazed by things not going quite to plan; often in this job they don’t. While previous experience is not necessary, it will certainly be looked upon favorably. We envisage this role is around 70% communication and burial coordination (including paperwork) and the other 30% is reinstating graves and being proactive with whatever else swings your way.

This vacancy is initially casual with an immediate start (your first few weeks could be around 40 hours). After a few weeks our current situation will be reassessed and we should know if this role will stay casual or become permanent.

You will be required to undertake, and pass, a pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol test.

Application

If you’ve made it this far and haven’t been put off, we welcome your CV, Cover Letter and salary expectation to careers@asplundh.co.nz.
